I've seen a few anecdotal reports of some build quality issues with the LP120, mostly having to do with warped platters or incorrect tonearm azimuth. I also recommend doing a careful visual inspection once the turntable arrives. I'd recommend buying from a seller with a liberal return policy, just in case you find the flutter audibly objectionable.
Your conjecture about wow and flutter being less at 78 RPM than at 33 is probably correct for belt-drive turntables, but may not hold for direct-drives depending on how much torque they have and how the motor drive electronics are designed. It sounds as if you've pretty much decided to go with the Audio-Technica. They probably just didn't sell them here in the Rocky Mountain West. I've never seen one in decades of scrounging at yard sales & thrifts. No it would not be my first choice, but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand either. What I've heard from casual listening several times is not bad.

He's a retired professional Jazz drummer and into Jazz & Classical. I've actually heard one that a friend owns. If I did, I'd simply make a transfer to WAV file and correct the pitch in Goldwave. I've never encountered any records requiring playback remotely close to 60 or 90 rpm. No, I can't get a "60-90 RPM range", but the plus/minus 8% of the SL-1200 and plus/minus 10% of the SP-15 allows me to spin any of the 7,000 78s in my collection at correct speed.
I've been using both a Technics SP-15 and Technics SL-1200 (w/78 rpm mod) to spin 78s.
